Alert: Defensive bear at Whistler Village and Rebagliati Park

Staff report
July 10, 2022 9:51am

The Conservation Officer Service (COS) has received reports of a black bear showing defensive behaviour and accessing unnatural food sources in Rebagliati Park and Whistler Village.

Rebagliati Park picnic area is closed to allow COS time to manage the situation.

COS reminds residents and visitors walking in this area to keep dogs on leash and ensure all garbage and food is disposed of correctly. A distance of 100 metres must be maintained from bears at all times.

Please report bear sightings by phoning the BC Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277. Early reporting allows the COS to assess situations and help keep our community members safe from conflict with wildlife and our bears safe and wild.

RMOW regularly issues Wildlife Alerts and they can be accessed at whistler.ca/Wildlife.
