A special weather statement is in effect for Sea to Sky, including for Whistler, Pemberton, and Highway 99 from Brandywine to Pemberton.
Heavy snow is expected to fall Thursday night and Friday, ranging from 10 to 20 cms.
“An atmospheric river will bring heavy snow to the region beginning Thursday afternoon. Moderate, gusty southerly winds will further reduce visibility in blowing snow,” according to Environment Canada.
“On Friday morning, freezing levels will begin to rise above the valley floor, peaking near 2000 m by afternoon. This will cause precipitation to change from snow to heavy rain. Precipitation comes to an end late Friday afternoon,” the agency notes.
In the wake of the trailing cold front, freezing levels will plummet back to the valley bottom by early Saturday morning. Meanwhile, an atmospheric river will bring heavy rain and strong winds to parts of the south coast on Thursday night and Friday, including Squamish.
