A winter storm warning is in place for Sea to Sky Highway. Significant amounts of snow are expected in Whistler and the Sea to Sky Highway from Squamish to Whistler. From now to Thursday morning, 30 to 50 cm of snow is expected.
“A robust frontal system will continue to produce heavy snow across Whistler and the Sea-to-Sky highway. Nearly 20 to 30 cm has fallen across the region with a further 10 to 15 cm today. Snow may change to rain this afternoon, but it is expected to transition back to snow this evening. A further 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected tonight before the system moves out of the area,” says Environment Canada.
This mix of rain and snow could affect the commute, and drivers should ensure vehicles are properly equipped for winter conditions, including having winter or snow-rated tires in good condition, the Province has cautioned. “The Province’s maintenance contractors will be out in full force applying brine and abrasives and clearing any snow accumulations. In the Lower Mainland, the cable-collar systems on the Port Mann and Alex Fraser bridges will be in operation as necessary.”
Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult, and poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.
