March 17, 2024 11:40am

One man has been charged with the murder of a woman in Abbotsford. On March 16, 2024, 50-year-old Jagpreet Singh of Abbotsford was charged with second-degree murder of his wife.

Abbotsford Police Department was called to the 3400 block of Wagner Drive after a report of an assault in progress. Officers attended and located a woman, later identified as 41-year-old Balwinder Kaur of Abbotsford, inside the residence suffering from life-threatening stab wounds.

First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the woman died in hospital shortly after that. Jagpreet Singh was arrested on scene.  The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken conduct of the investigation and is working closely in partnership with AbbyPD and the BC Coroners Service.

“This was an isolated incident,” says Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. “IHIT will continue to work with AbbyPD over the coming days to advance this investigation and support the community affected by this tragedy.”

IHIT asks anyone with information to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
