Snowfall warning for Whistler, Pemberton

staff report
December 14, 2024 4:12pm

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Whistler and Pemberton, with 15 to 20 cm of snow expected near Whistler and Callaghan Valley this evening.

A deep low-pressure system moving across the South Coast is bringing the snowfall, with surface temperatures hovering near 0°C. As warmer inflow winds raise the freezing level slightly, the snow may sometimes mix with rain.

The snowfall is expected to ease by late evening, but rapidly accumulating snow could create challenging driving conditions along the highway. Mountain weather can change suddenly, increasing the risk of hazardous situations for travelers. Drivers are advised to slow down, use winter tires or chains, and be prepared for reduced visibility.

For updated road conditions, visit drivebc.ca. The safety campaign at shiftintowinter.ca also reminds drivers to plan ahead and adjust to winter driving conditions.
