What began as a spontaneous decision after a workout became a life-changing moment for Pierre Gagnon of Mount Currie. On March 21, the B.C. resident purchased a Lotto Max ticket on a whim — and walked away $109,850.30 richer.

“I was on my couch, just before going to bed,” Gagnon recalled of the moment he discovered his win using the BCLC Lotto! app. “I couldn’t get to sleep until 3:00 a.m. My jaw dropped and I was very excited.”

The news was too big to keep to himself. He first tried calling his brother, but when there was no answer, he phoned his mother instead. “Luckily she was awake!” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Petro Canada on Portage Road in Pemberton. Gagnon said he plans to travel with some of the money and invest the rest. But for him, the value of the experience extends beyond the dollar figure.

“It’s worth more than the amount I’m winning,” he said.
