Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the South Coast of BC. High temperatures are expected this Saturday through early next week.
The agency warns of an early-season heat with daytime temperatures projected to climb into the high 20s and low 30s. Overnight lows are expected to hover in the low to mid-teens, with little relief from the heat until early next week.
“This is an early-season heat event,” Environment Canada said. “It can be significant due to the lack of acclimatization to elevated temperatures.”
The agency is urging residents to take precautions: keep indoor spaces cool by closing curtains or blinds, monitor for signs of heat-related illness, and avoid relying on fans alone, especially for older adults. Symptoms of heat illness can include heavy sweating, rashes, muscle cramps, fainting, and elevated body temperature. People with pre-existing health conditions may be especially vulnerable.
