The Whistler Racket Club is presenting a Town Hall event on August 30 to present WRC’s future vision and plans to relocate the facility. They will share the progress, plans, and vision from the WRC Planning Committee, as we work together to build a new multi-use, family-friendly, and inclusive year-round facility that reflects the needs of the entire Sea to Sky community.
Save the Whistler Racket Club! A development company is going to present its latest Northlands site proposal to the public in September, and once again, there are no plans to replace the WRC. No land has been identified for the replacement facility, and no money has been allocated.
During the first two rounds of public engagement, the community stated, with a strong voice, that two top priorities should result from the Northlands rezoning application. Replace the WRC with a multi-use racquet centre. Additional employee housing.
The proposal does prioritize onsite employee housing with an additional 47 units for a total of 70 onsite units. But at what cost? The demolition of the WRC, a recreation and social hub that has served the community for over 30 years, with no plans to replace it anywhere else!
It’s once again time to ramp up the campaign to Save the WRC. A good place to start is a letter-writing campaign to the mayor. When writing your letters, please consider using some of the talking points below. It would also be helpful if you sent a copy to us at info@whistlertennisassociation.ca

WRC users and user groups are the only “lobby group” that is not asking for more than we already have in the community. We are simply trying to protect an important, 30-year-plus asset from being taken away from the community.
Removing recreational assets from a fast-growing community is bad planning, especially indoor assets that provide resilience to climate change. Should we be closing a popular, weather-independent, recreation asset when the effects of global warming are threatening mountain resorts? Tennis and pickleball significantly have higher participation rates than skiing in Canada.
Let’s unite around one voice and one vision — and create a new Whistler Racket Club the whole community can be proud of.
