Severe thunderstorm watch for Lillooet

August 11, 2022 4:50pm

Environment Canada has issued a weather watch for Lillooet and surrounding areas. There is a possibility of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

“Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings and break branches off trees. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops,” cautions Environment Canada.

Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
