Man charged with indecent act in Lillooet

January 6, 2023 9:50am

Charges have been approved against a 38 year-old man in relation to an Indecent Act that occurred on Main Street in Lillooet.

On January 3, at 5:20 pm, Lillooet RCMP received a report about a man masturbating in the 700 block of Main Street. He was also exposing himself while facing the road. The caller provided the exact location where the man was seen, and a full description of his clothing.

Lillooet RCMP attended immediately, and also observed the man in the act, providing significant evidence. The man attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly restrained by attending officers and placed in handcuffs after a brief struggle with police.

On January 4, BC Prosecution approved charges against Francis Copeland, which included one count indecent act, one count fail to comply with probation order, and one count resist peace officer. Copeland remains in custody.

“This type of behaviour will not be tolerated in our community,” said media relations officer Constable Andrew Hodges. “It is important for the public to be aware of these incidents, and to report indecent activities to police. We would like to thank the witness who reported the incident immediately. This allowed officers to obtain additional evidence and were able to confidently identify the offender; which is a piece that is often missing in these types of investigations.”
