Arctic outflow warning for Whistler, Pemberton

Staff report
February 23, 2023 3:50pm

An arctic outflow warning is in effect for Whistler and Pemberton. Outflow winds and wind chill will plummet the temperature to as low as -20C early morning and overnight hours.

“A strong ridge of high pressure over the BC interior will continue to force arctic air out to the coast via valleys and inlets,” says Environment Canada.

Limit outdoor activities. Minimize exposed skin with hats, scarves and mittens or gloves, and ensure that shelter is provided for pets and outdoor animals.  Meanwhile, the Whistler Community Services Society is operating an Emergency Overnight Shelter for anyone without access to a warm place to stay.

It will be open at 6 pm on Thursday, February 23 to 9 a.m. Friday, February 24 at 8000 Nesters Road.  WCSS Outreach services are also available 9 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday to anyone who needs additional emotional, financial, or mental health support by calling 604-932-0113.
