Severe thunderstorm watch for Lillooet

staff report
July 27, 2023 2:53pm

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Fraser Canyon – north, including Lillooet.  Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

These thunderstorms are expected to occur mainly over the mountain ridges. However, there is a possibility that these thunderstorms drift to the populated areas of the region. “Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors,” the agency cautions.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
