Alert: Grizzly spotted in Whistler elementary school playground

Whistler RCMP has issued a note of caution after a grizzly bear was seen in the playground of a local elementary school.

A notification to the public of a grizzly bear spotted earlier this morning in the lower playground of Myrtle Phillips Elementary School. Police and @_BCCOS have been in the area and the bear has not been located. The school is aware @SD48seatosky @RMWhistler

Yesterday, the RMOW also share a notice about the grizzly bear sighting at the Nicklaus North Golf Course in Whistler.

Nicklaus North Golf Course has closed holes 3 – 13 as a safety precaution for guests and there is no access for the public to the golf course. Residents and visitors are reminded to keep all pets leashed when walking and to be extra vigilant of bears on the Valley trail surrounding the west side of the golf course.

If you encounter a bear, please give it space, back away slowly from the area and speak in a calm, firm voice. Please report all sightings of grizzly bears to COS at: 1-877-952-7277.
