A BC mother who smothered her eight-year-old daughter to death was found dead in prison. In a brief statement, the Correctional Service of Canada said Lisa Batstone, an inmate from Fraser Valley Institution in Abbotsford, died in custody.
“At the time of death, the inmate had been serving an indeterminate sentence, which commenced on September 3, 2019, for second-degree murder.” “The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.”
The Correctional Service of Canada is reviewing the circumstances of her death, and their policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified. The Surrey resident was serving a life sentence after being convicted of second-degree murder of her eight-year-old daughter, Teagan, in December of 2014. Teagan’s body was discovered in the back of a car that was stuck in ditch.
