A snowfall warning has been issued for the Coquihalla Highway by Environment Canada.
The warning states that from tonight to Tuesday morning, there will be 15 cm of snow, including heavy wet snow near the summit at Coquihalla Summit. The total snowfall accumulation would be around 15 cm.
The heavy accumulating snow could lead to poor visibility in heavy snow and slippery surfaces, Environment Canada warns.
A frontal system will move across southern B.C. today and tonight, bringing rain and snow. Precipitation will start as rain this afternoon as the snow rises above the Coquihalla Summit. Rain will change to snow near the summit this evening as the snow level falls to near the summit, according to the advisory.
The snow will become scattered flurries Tuesday morning and abate near noon.
“Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. It is advised to take extra precautions while driving and to check road conditions before heading out,” the agency cautions.
