The BC Wildfire Service is responding to multiple wildfires within the Cariboo Fire Centre. The largest is the Burgess Creek wildfire, approximately 50 hectares and located 45 kilometres south of Quesnel.
Due to strong winds, the Burgess Creek wildfire produces a large column of smoke visible from Highway 97, Williams Lake, and Quesnel. Crews, aircraft and heavy equipment are on site. Three other fires south of Quesnel are also monitored by aircraft, and crews are responding as required.
The BC Wildfire Service also continues to respond to two wildfires in the VanJam Fire Zone.
Wildfire G40116 is located approximately four kilometres east of Vanderhoof and is approximately 8 hectares in size. Smoke remains visible from Vanderhoof and the surrounding area, including Highway 16. Wildfire G40119 is located approximately 11 kilometres west of Fraser Lake and is approximately 15 hectares in size. Smoke remains visible from parts of Fraser Lake and the surrounding area, including Endako and Highway 16.
Either fire currently threatens no structures. Crews, aircraft and heavy equipment have responded, prioritizing protecting human life, property and infrastructure. Additional BC Wildfire Service personnel and air support have been requested.
