A special weather statement is in place for Coquihalla Highway, and those travelling are advised to prepare for potential flurries over high-elevation mountain passes today.
The affected areas include the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton via Allison Pass, and Highway 3 from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass. According to Environment Canada, a Pacific frontal system is expected to move across British Columbia today, bringing snow levels at or below mountain pass levels in southern BC.
While snowfall accumulations are possible, the amount will vary depending on the location. Officials are reminding drivers to be cautious as the weather in the mountains can change suddenly, leading to hazardous driving conditions.
Road conditions can be monitored on drivebc.ca, while severe weather can be reported by emailing BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tagging reports using #BCStorm on Twitter. Residents are urged to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada to stay informed about any changes in weather conditions.
