Modern Dog Training has been awarded BC SPCA AnimalKind accreditation, making it the only dog training company in Whistler to hold this distinction. This recognition is reserved for only a select group of dog trainers who exhibit the highest standards in evidence-based, positive reinforcement training methods.
Modern Dog Training offers training services in Whistler and Pemberton.
“It was a priority for me from the beginning of my work with dogs and their guardians to set the bar high,” says Abbey Gregus, owner, and trainer at Modern Dog Training. Gregus started her journey in 2020 when she opened her dog walking service, Doggy Tales. After becoming a certified trainer with the Karen Pryor Academy, she opened Modern Dog Training in November 2023. “My goal is to foster humane and compassionate dog guardianship within the Sea to Sky community,” she says. “Nothing makes me happier than guiding people to more positive, connected and peaceful lives with their dogs.”
Nicole Fenwick, manager of research and standards for the BC SPCA, says, “The BC SPCA created the AnimalKind accreditation program to help connect dog guardians with trainers like Abbey Gregus, who use evidence and reward-based training methods. These methods are proven to be effective and nurture the physical and emotional health of dogs and protect the loving bond that develops between dogs and their human families.”
Gregus understands there is more work to do in an unregulated industry. She says, “I hope that in the future, this accreditation will be a requirement for anyone practicing dog training in B.C. For now, I’m extremely proud to be the only BC SPCA AnimalKind accredited trainer in the Whistler, Pemberton area. I am eternally grateful for this incredibly supportive mountain town and all my clients, staff, family members, and friends whose support has helped turn my dreams into a reality!”
