Campfires banned in Whistler and Pemberton

staff report
May 15, 2024 11:24am

A campfire ban is in effect for Pemberton and Whistler.

By direction of the Fire Chief, no fires or residential campfires are allowed in Whistler effective Monday, May 13, 2024 at Noon.  The campfire ban applies to all levels of fire danger rating, including low and moderate and will remain in effect until further notice.

Bonfires or open-air fires are prohibited in public areas or Whistler’s parks at any time. A CSA-rated or ULC-rated portable campfire apparatus that uses propane fuel is still allowed in Whistler, so long as the height of the flame is less than 15 centimetres and it is used by the manufacturer’s recommendations.

To report a wildfire please call 911 or 1800 663 5555 or dial *5555 from your cell phone.

A full fire ban, including campfires (category 1), Category 2, and Category 3 fires, will also be in effect within the Village of Pemberton boundaries starting Wednesday, May 15 at noon.  Any illegal fires can be reported by calling the Pemberton Fire & Rescue Fire Hall during office hours or 911 outside of office hours.
