Squamish RCMP, in collaboration with Squamish Search and Rescue, Integrated Police Dog Services, and RCMP Air Services, continues to search for three climbers reported missing on May 31, 2024, in Garibaldi Provincial Park.
Adverse weather and high avalanche risk have hindered the search. However, forecasts indicate a clearing tomorrow afternoon, which may allow for an aerial assessment before deploying search and rescue teams into the complex terrain.
“Our specialized team members are on standby, ready to respond. We are working with avalanche technicians to assess the risks as we face winter conditions in the area,” said BJ Chute, Manager of Squamish Search and Rescue.
The public is asked to stay out of the Garibaldi Mountain and Atwell Peak area to prevent the hinderance of search and rescue operations. Squamish RCMP said updates will be provided as they become available.
