Three bodies recovered from Garibaldi Provincial Park

staff report
July 8, 2024 2:12pm

Squamish RCMP and Squamish SAR have discovered three bodies from Atwell Peak in Garibaldi Provincial Park. Police did not confirm if they were of hikers reported missing last month.

“On July 8, 2024, as a result of continued search efforts by the Squamish Search and Rescue (SAR) teams, Sea to Sky RCMP – Squamish confirmed three bodies have been recovered in the area of Atwell Peak in the Garibaldi Provincial Park,” Squamish RCMP said in a press release.

Members of Squamish Search and Rescue worked with the RCMP this morning to recover the bodies of three individuals in the Atwell Peak area. The task has been turned over to the RCMP and the Coroner Service, said BJ Chute, Manager of Squamish Search and Rescue.

Authorities are in touch with the families who have requested privacy during this difficult time. The names of the deceased will not be released. As the file is now with the BC Coroners Service, Sea to Sky RCMP – Squamish will not release further information.
