One man has pled guilty to manslaughter in the 2021 Whistler stabbing. Dedaar Jhooty appeared in North Vancouver Provincial Court and pled guilty to manslaughter in a 2021 stabbing in Whistler Village.
The stabbing incident happened on August 14, 2021, when Sea to Sky RCMP was called to investigate an altercation that happened near Whistler Village. The victim was waiting for a taxi with a friend when a verbal altercation ensued between the victim, the friend, and another group of males.
The altercation escalated, and the victim was stabbed. He was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took the conduct of the investigation. Following an investigation, Dedaar Jhooty was identified as a suspect, and on June 23, 2022, he was arrested and charged with manslaughter.
On July 16, 2024, Jhooty appeared in North Vancouver Provincial Court and pled guilty to manslaughter. The sentencing hearing will be scheduled shortly.
In a press release, IHIT said it appreciated the assistance the Whistler RCMP and the Sea to Sky General Investigation Section (GIS) provided. Through strong partnerships with the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and National Forensic Laboratory Service (NFLS), IHIT collected key evidence. More information will be released after sentencing.
