One man has lost his life in a drowning incident at Porteau Cove Provincial Park.
On August 4, 2024, Squamish RCMP said it responded to a drowning incident at Porteau Cove Provincial Park. Despite the efforts of bystanders and first responders to administer life-saving measures, the man died at the scene.
Squamish RCMP has notified the next of kin of the deceased. Following a thorough assessment, officers have determined that no criminal activity was involved in the incident and have subsequently handed over the investigation to the BC Coroner Service.
Cpl. Brett Urano, spokesperson for the Squamish RCMP, expressed gratitude towards all those who participated in the rescue efforts.
“Squamish RCMP would like to thank all those who assisted in the rescue attempt. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of this man during this tragic incident,” he said.
