A tragic incident near Lillooet has left one person dead after a pickup truck plunged into Carpenter Lake following a collision.
On the night of September 7, 2024, Lillooet RCMP responded to a call about an unclothed man found along Lillooet Pioneer Road 40 near Carpenter Lake.

The man, who had been involved in a single-vehicle collision, was picked up by a passerby and taken to a nearby resort lodge. He reported that his black Dodge Ram pickup truck had plunged into Carpenter Lake, and a second occupant was still believed to be inside the submerged vehicle.
Emergency responders, including Lillooet RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, and Lillooet Road Rescue, conducted extensive searches for the vehicle late into the night. Despite finding a small debris field, there were no immediate signs of the truck.
The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was dispatched the following day and located the submerged vehicle in the lake. Tragically, the body of the second occupant was found inside. The vehicle was subsequently recovered and towed from the lake.
Authorities have notified the family of the deceased, and the incident remains under investigation as officials work to determine the cause of the crash.
