Police continue to search for a man who fell into Fraser River. On September 6, 2024, a man identified as Randall Alvis Ned fell into the Fraser River near the “6 Mile” fishing grounds off Highway 99 in Lillooet, triggering a large-scale search operation. The incident was reported to Lillooet RCMP around 5:15 p.m. by witnesses who saw the fall.

Ned was fishing with a dip net when the river’s strong current tugged on the net, causing him to lose his balance and plunge into the water. Despite immediate efforts to rescue him, Ned could not be found.

Authorities swiftly mobilized a coordinated search. Lillooet Road Rescue deployed an aerial drone to scan the area while the Department of Fisheries searched the river by boat. Pemberton Search and Rescue dispatched a helicopter and three vessels for water patrols. Three swift water rescue teams were also involved, working late into the evening, but the search ended without success.

Ned is described as an Indigenous man, approximately 5’9″ tall, weighing around 150 pounds, with grey hair and a clean-shaven face. He was last seen wearing a green long-sleeve shirt, blue pants, and dark-coloured hiking boots.

Authorities urge anyone with information on Ned’s whereabouts to come forward as search efforts continue.
