Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Sea to Sky region, warning of wintry conditions beginning Thursday afternoon.
A low-pressure system is moving toward the B.C. coast, bringing steady rain starting Thursday. Initially there might be wet snow at higher elevations, but some areas could get up to five centimetres of snow by Friday morning.
On Friday, temperatures rise and most areas will see rainfall through the day, with significant rain possible on North Shore. Friday night will see an influx of cold Arctic air and there is again the possibility of snow, though the agency is unsure of how big of a dump it will be.
Then early next week, very cold and dry air is forecast to settle over the South Coast.
Drivers are advised to prepare for rapidly changing conditions, especially in the mountains, where weather shifts can lead to hazardous road conditions. Travelers can check road conditions at drivebc.ca and monitor updates from Environment Canada.
