An Arctic Outflow Warning is in effect for Whistler and Pemberton as frigid winds and dangerously low wind chills grip the region.
According to Environment Canada, strong outflow winds of up to 40 km/h are sweeping through the Whistler Valley, bringing wind chill values as low as -20°C in some areas. The coldest conditions are expected overnight.
The warning remains in place through Tuesday and could extend further into the week. While some moderation is possible by Wednesday, outflow winds are expected to persist.
Residents and visitors are urged to take precautions against frostbite, particularly during outdoor activities. Authorities advise avoiding exposed locations near water, where wind chill effects are most severe, and ensuring pets and outdoor animals have adequate shelter.
Environment Canada continues to monitor the situation and encourages the public to stay updated on forecasts and alerts. Severe weather can be reported via email at BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or on Twitter using #BCStorm.
