Snowfall warning for Whistler

staff report
March 8, 2025 7:17am

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the Sea to Sky Highway, warning of heavy snowfall, significant rainfall, and challenging driving conditions through the weekend. A snowfall warning is also in effect for Whistler.

An atmospheric river is bringing heavy snow and rain to the corridor between Squamish and Whistler. Snowfall accumulation is expected to reach 30 centimetres, with rainfall between 40 and 60 millimetres. Snow will primarily fall above 350 metres throughout Saturday. As temperatures rise overnight, it will lead to heavy rain, which is expected to continue until Sunday evening.

Drivers should prepare for quickly changing conditions. Environment Canada advises motorists to slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be ready to stop if visibility deteriorates. Authorities recommend using winter tires or chains for safe winter driving. Road condition updates are available at DriveBC.ca, and weather alerts can be monitored through Environment Canada.

Severe weather reports can be sent to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or shared on social media using #BCStorm.
