Whistler Blackcomb has announced the launch of the Shoulder Season Community Meal Program, an initiative to provide Whistler residents and Whistler Blackcomb employees with affordable, accessible, and nutritious meals during the spring shoulder season.

The spring shoulder season often results in reduced hours and limited employment opportunities for local workers, creating financial pressure for many.

Whistler Blackcomb said this program aims to ease that burden and foster a sense of community during a traditionally quiet time in town. The program will run one evening per week starting Thursday, May 1 and continuing into June. Each dinner will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Merlin’s, with the capacity to serve between 200 and 250 guests per night.

The cost per meal is $10, including tax. “Shoulder season can be tough. Shifts are cut as guests leave, and incomes drop for those working locally,” said Wolfgang Sterr, Director of Food and Beverage. “We saw a need and came up with the idea to host community dinners that are affordable, nutritious, and cost-neutral. Lending our expertise in purchasing food, cooking, and serving, it was an easy decision.”

Two rotating menus have been created with options that accommodate a range of dietary needs, including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free preferences. Meals are open to all age groups, and takeout is available for added convenience.

To ensure the program reaches those who need it most, WB Epic Promise will purchase 25 to 50 meal tickets per dinner and donate them to the food bank. This also guarantees spots for local residents who are not Whistler Blackcomb employees. Community members may also purchase tickets directly if complimentary tickets are unavailable or if they can contribute.
