Whistler’s electric bike share program is gearing up for a significant expansion, with the fleet set to grow to 125 e-bikes in 2025. Whistler council also voted to extend the program through 2027, citing strong adoption and environmental benefits.
The increase, approved by the council on April 29, is part of a two-year extension of the Evolve e-bike share program, operated in partnership with the BC Automobile Association (BCAA). The program launched in 2023 with 55 bikes and has since expanded to 95, with new locations added at staff housing sites and key commercial areas across the resort.
Mayor Jack Crompton called the program “a fundamental part of our overall transportation strategy.” He said the expansion supports Whistler’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions through more active transportation options. Along with more bikes, the coming year will bring additional parking zones and a broader rollout of BCAA’s inclusive mobility program.
According to a staff report to the RMOW council, usage has climbed steadily since launch. In 2024, trips increased by 82 per cent, while the distance travelled grew by 28 per cent. Data collected from riders shows that nearly 40 per cent would have used a car had the e-bikes not been available, avoiding an estimated 73,500 kilometres in vehicle travel.
The median trip length was just over four kilometres, with most rides being one-way.
