Parking to cost more in Whistler starting April

RMOW council has approved an increase in street parking rates beginning April 3, 2023.

The changes are as follows:

Sundial Crescent, Gate Way Loop, Main Street, Blackcomb Way, Municipal Hall, Village Green, Conference Centre Underground/Surface and Library parking lots: $2.50 per hour. The rate is currently $2.

Conference Underground and Library parking lots:

Daily rate: $25 (currently $20)

Evening rate: $6.25 (currently $5)

Monthly rate for the Conference Level 4 Underground parking lot: $88 (currently $70)

“The rate change is intended to bring Whistler closer to industry standards, to make it easier to find spots, and will also encourage more sustainable forms of transportation,” said Penny Buswell  Lafrance, media relations for RMOW.

The most recent parking rate change for Municipal Paid Street Parking Lots was on February 1, 2020, when the price of the first hour of parking increases from $1 to $2. The expected increase in revenue is expected to be $400,000.

    I guess they have not heard that inflation is a problem and we are all paying for that with massively increased interest rates. How about being part of the solution and cutting your spending instead of exacerbating the problem buy increasing your spending and raising our costs. I don’t think the cost of operating a parking system has gone up 25%.
