Whistler council has approved four applications for cannabis stores in Whistler, granting them Temporary Use Permits that will be valid for three years, with an option to renew. There were five applications, and all were approved except one, which was an application by Nesters.
The permit was approved for the following:
Village Centre area: This is Cannabis at #201 A&B, 4293 Mountain Square
Village North area: Main Street THC Canada Ltd at #115, 4368 Main Street
Creekside area: Spiritleaf Whistler at #103, 2011 Innsbruck Drive
Function Junction area: A Little Bud at #1, 1050 Millar Creek Road
A TUP is a municipal approval for a temporary land use outside the permitted land uses and five retail zones were previously identified by RMOW.
“What we see here, by taking our time, is quality applications,” says Councillor Jeff Murl. “The process we’ve set up is very refined, it is robust, and I think it’s time to move forward.”
“The commitments made by applicants throughout this process are significant,” said Whistler Mayor Jack Crompton. “I expect each applicant will follow through with these commitments as they move us toward the goals set out in our Official Community Plan.”
Once applicants have been awarded a Temporary Use Permit, they will sign a Good Neighbour Agreement, obtain a provincial Cannabis Retail Store licence, and apply for a business licence. Additional requirements such as building, development and sign permits may also be required by RMOW.
