Due to the high water levels and significant hazards downstream, a mandatory portage is now in effect for the Tapley’s section of the River of Golden Dreams.

According to a notice posted by RMOW, the portage extends from the Alta Lake fish weir to the lower CN rail bridge. Boaters planning to navigate the River of Golden Dreams must either launch their boats from the end of the portage trail below the lower CN rail bridge (accessed from the end of Lorimer Road) or be prepared to portage the 600-meter section from the Alta Lake Fish weir to the lower rail bridge.

RMOW has placed signs along the river to inform the public of the mandatory portage and provide directions for portaging/launching below the railway bridge.

Given the current high and fast water conditions, boaters must be experienced paddlers with appropriate safety gear. Local conservation officers will conduct random checks throughout the summer to ensure that users are properly equipped for their trips down the River of Golden Dreams.
