At a meeting today, the RMOW Council will decide on the proposed permit for renovations to the Tyndall Stone Lodge, located at 4338 Main Street. If approved, the upgrades will refresh the building’s exterior and enhance its functionality.
The renovation plans include a new roof and a fresh coat of paint for the North Tyndall Stone building. Additionally, improvements to the breezeway and west entry area, replacement of decorative rafter tips above the commercial units, an increase in the height of the pool area fence, and a new building sign are all part of the proposed upgrades.
The Tyndall Stone Lodge, a key part of Whistler Village, features two buildings connected by a breezeway. Its east side faces Whistler Olympic Plaza, a pedestrian-friendly area, while the west side fronts onto Main Street, with street parking and roadway access.
The lodge hosts various commercial storefronts at ground level, with tourist accommodations occupying the upper three floors. The south building, significantly damaged by fire a few years ago, has already undergone renovations, including a new roof and paint job.
Key details of the proposed renovations are as follows:
- Repainting: The north building will transition from its current maroon/burgundy color to “Spruce Green,” while retaining “Olympic Sandstone” and “Antique Linen” for the stucco and trim. The south building will remain “Georgian Blue.”
- Roof Replacement: The north building will get a new standing seam metal roof in “Weathered Zinc,” matching the south building’s roof installed in 2015. Additional snow bars will be added to prevent leaks and ice buildup.
- Breezeway and West Entrance Upgrades: Enhancements include converting the open pergola-type roof to a closed asphalt roof for better weather protection, installing new handrails and supports, adding fiber cement shingles in Olympic Sandstone color, and relocating exterior drainpipes inside the building wall.
- Pool Area Fence: The height of the pool area fence on the north building will be increased from 1.5 meters to 2 meters with the addition of an opaque plexiglass panel to enhance safety.
- Rafter Tips and Signage: Deteriorated decorative rafter tips above the commercial units will be replaced, and a new Tyndall Stone Lodge identification sign will be installed on the east elevation of the breezeway facing Whistler Olympic Plaza.
No changes to the existing landscaping are proposed.
