Alert issued after bear accesses home twice in Creekside

staff report
June 11, 2024 8:06am

The BC Conservation Officer Service (COS) has issued a bear alert following an incident in the Creekside neighbourhood on June 9, 2024. Around 3 p.m., a bear entered a home through an open window while the residents were away.

The bear found food and attempted to re-enter the home while a neighbour tried to haze it away. The COS urges residents to secure all ground-level windows and doors to prevent such incidents.

Wildlife conflicts can be reported to the COS by calling 1-877-952-7277.  More information is available at www.whistler.ca/wildlifealert.

In November last year, a bear that broke into a property in Whistler was killed by COS. “It was necessary to kill the bear because it became a public safety risk. On multiple occasions, the bear had bluff-charged people and broke into a property, causing significant damage, including ripping off heavy metal doors,” COS said at that time.
