Whistler weather alert: First snowfall of the season tomorrow

staff report
November 15, 2024 7:34am

Residents and travellers in the Sea to Sky region, including Squamish, Whistler, and Pemberton, should prepare for the season’s first significant snowfall on Saturday, according to a Special Weather Statement issued by Environment Canada.

The forecast predicts 5 to 10 centimetres of snow, with rain expected to begin early Saturday morning. Snowfall may mix with rain later in the day before tapering off Saturday night.

Drivers are advised to prepare for winter conditions, including reduced visibility during snow, as temperatures are expected to hover near the freezing mark. This could lead to some melting and uncertain accumulation levels on the ground.

The approaching weather system will bring rain to coastal areas, with snow expected further inland along the Sea to Sky Highway. The rapidly changing mountain weather could create hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are encouraged to check road updates at DriveBC.ca before travelling.

Environment Canada advises monitoring updates and forecasts and encourages reports of severe weather through email at BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or social media using the hashtag #BCStorm.
